Sticky ignition key

Ignition key not turning, steering lock on...

Checked price of new barrel and key (with chip as necessary):
Citroen £400 plus, local friendly mechanic under £200.

Then I read on this forum about contact cleaners for loosening locks, so I gave it a go.

3 - 4 squirts of WD40 (couldn't find anything better in shed) later, with much rattling and tapping of key in lock, it now works fine!

Must say I was surprised by the amount of muck that came out on the key.

Wd40 is ideal as its thin and will penetrate easily.

I always keep a can in my car just in case.

More than likely your key has picked up crap from your pocket and over time had worked its way into the lock

I use a little petroleum jelly or LM grease, just push key into grease and then into lock and twist a few times, don't forget to clean the key when done.
The last time I used wd40 the whole ignition barel contents collapsed!

It was probably held together by the crud.:lol:
