Loss of power

Car is a 1.9d 2001.been running fine.fitted new front pipe last week. today been tootaling back and forth then power just went wouldnt pull engine started to rattle like diesel snap.it would go so far and have to stop.it would smoke black/blue and weired smell.actually ran better in 4th than 2nd/3rd but then conk out.temp gauge went slightly over 3/4.no faster than 20mph.absolutely no power.any ideas please.

Possibly head gasket failure.

You need to do a compression test

You also are probably burning oil , check the level and don't let it fall too low or you could seize your engine

Think i have solved it.tried to put up ramps it just wouldnt move.removed exhaust clamp where new front pipe joins cat and seperated. though noisy it went up ramp.i think the sealant i put on the joints has blocked the cat.

Quite a bit.and the worse part is i just realised i didnt use exhaust paste i had picked up a similar looking tube difference is this one says non setting gutter joint sealant.what a richard cranium, doh.

New exhaust and it runs a treat.
