I need to change the thermostat on my wife's Berlingo hdi 75. Is it relatively straightforward, or are there any pitfalls I should know about? I had a look through the tutorials/how to...... section but can't see anything listed.
While I'm doing that job, is there anything to be gained from blanking the EGR?
TIA
Stuart.

The thermostat is on the gearbox end of the engine, it is an expensive (£30+) plastic casting where the radiator hoses lead to.
If you think your thermostat has gone it is worth having a garage test the coolant first as there is a chance your head gasket has gone instead. What are the symptoms?

Blanking the egr depends on your ecu.
Siemens for example will detect the blocked egr and throw it into limp home mode.
If you want to blank the egr your best off deleting it as well.

Works best if you take it off
Gives you a chance to give it a proper clean and check too.

Well, I've done the job this evening. When I got the 'stat from my local Citroen dealer, I asked for the correct amount of antifreeze and was given 2ltrs.
I drained the system by taking the bottom hose off the radiator, and sure enough roughly 4 ltrs came out. Now I'm sure there must have been some left in the system (particularly as the block wasn't drained) but I can't believe there would have been 7ltrs left in there. Good old Mr Haynes!
