Intermittent total light failure

Hi everybody
I have a mk11 berlingo on a 53 plate 1.9 d multispace. Last year whilst driving on a dual carriageway in the early hours of the morning my lights failed for a few seconds ! Everything went exterior and interior including the dash and left me with nothing then mysteriously came back at the time their had been heavy rain and I thought somehow water had effected things. The problem returned last week when I again lost all of my lights for a few seconds on the M20 on my way to france I have covered 2000 miles since then with no reoccurrence of the problem has any body any ideas or has anybody had this problem also your thought would be appreciated

Was it raining the second timevit happened?

Never had it with the Berlingo but another car I had did it and it was a faulty alternator.

Did it again this morning when I pulled in the yard at work this morning no rain this time bone dry ! As far as I know alternator is ok as light are all bright and no warning light on dash but I did notice that my high level brake light seemed to be permanently on didn't get chance to investigate further as I'm now away at work for the week as I'm a truck driver but will update at the weekend. Thanks for your suggestions so far.

I've had a problem with my headlights & dash lights in the past- had to have the switch around the steering column changed.

You found out if your high level brake light is always on yet?
