Lay a tarpaulin on the floor under the vehicle as it can be a messy affair, don't do it on the lawn either.
Best done on a warm day with the waxoyl warmed up in a bucket of hot water. Wear a pair of glasses just in case.

was always told not to spray the brake pipes or at least wipe them clean after, A light coat of clear silicone grease is applied on them after

Don't forget to treat any rust etc before applying.
And make sure the underside is clean to.
