We have run into a bit of a problem after changing the serpentine belt on our 2002 1.9d berlingo berlingo.
Heres the run down.
We purchased the car as seen yesterday and all seemed fine if not a little noise from a pulley.
My son took the car out last night and around 6 miles from home the serpentine belt derailed and jammed in a guide wheel.
The heater stopped working and power steering went and battery light came on, so all the usual things you'd expect when the belt is off.
Now, today we changed the belt and noticed excess play in the camshaft pulley so we replaced that too for £69. Our pulley wheel has a centre bolt and three smaller securing bolts located on the wheel.
To swop the pulley wheel over we simply had to remove the three small bolts, fit the new wheel and put the bolts back.
After doing this, son thought the main crankshaft bolt appeared to not be screwed in enough so he tightened it by placing car in gear and turning the bolt a few times. Although the bolt would obviously not tighten solid, it did appear a liitle better seated.
We put the new belt back on and started the engine but it now running really rough as though the timing is out and the odd plumes of white smoke when we rev the engine.
The car was low on diesel but we have put in £10 worth just in case it had been sucking up rubbish from the tank.
My main question is, by turning the large crankshaft pulley bolt, is it likely we have disturbed the timing in any way as I though the bolt was just a pulley bolt and not directly linked to the actual crank?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
