Hi Ed.
I had this same problem with the passenger side of my Mk.1 Blingo not long after I bought it a few years ago. Investigation on the web revealed that pressing to hard on the key slot with the key can cause the lock to spin. Seemingly, it is an anti-theft/tamper facility. I have had no problems since I found this out. Are you aware of this?
Regards,
Tony

Hi Ed,
I have been having similar problems
I could not turn my passenger lock to open or close, the drivers door no matter how soft hard it was pushed or fast or slow it was spun i could not lock it.
I had them replaced today. It's my bosses vehicle, it cost us 220 but we have an account with the garage so a bit thankful I am not paying that one. The boss admitted it had been going for a while before I was given the vehicle.
Now I have a new full set of locks including the ignition plus 2 spare ones as I do not have side doors. My only problem now is that the key warning lamp comes on. I am also in the MK1 (1.9d) It does not have central locking and I am wondering the following.
P.S - sorry for thread hijacking.
A. What will happen if I don't get it sorted?
B. Should I mention it to the garage and see if it's something that the chap should have sorted at the time?
Thanks Muchly and hope you get sorted.

Yes! You should certainly tell the garage about the key warning light illuminating.....it may be significant.
