hello vespa you ok,in the past i've always been lucky to undo them by hand, but in case i cant i've got the one with a length of bicycle chain attatched to a lever, the chain is wrapped around the filter and then pull on the lever to slacken the filter, hope this helps

An old trick is to punch a screwdriver through and use the screwdriver as a lever.

These type work quite well.

If you can't undo a filter by hand its too tight.

Do you rub new oil on the seal and thread before you tighten?

How tight is tight?

Oil filters should be hand screwed on then once stopped by light hand screwing should be given another half a turn, only if it leaks should it be tightened a little more.

when you wrap the chain around the filter you do it in such a way that the end of the lever is positioned in one of the links and then pull on it when you pull on it the links dig into the filter, it should turn quite easily, and yes you do smear oil around the new seal and then tighten by hand, hope this helps,

Yes i smear oil on it, hand tighten it, it doesnt leak and i use the wrench in the right way, i always end up knocking a screw driver through it though.
