Just fitted a new Pioneer head unit in my 2007 M59 1.6hdi. Â Works a treat with full operation from the steering wheel stalk.
The cable / loom required is:

Took 20 mins to complete including positioning the BT microphone (the whole reason for the swap)
The radio works as expected so turns on/off with the ignition just as you`d want. The dash display now shows just the time and "door open" type warnings.
