My New XTR ETG6
#11
i believe the previous gearbox had problems ( ESG6, i could be wrong ) but the newer ETG6 was fine, mine anyway !   If you're concerned test drive one to satisfy yourself. in traffic i found it very relaxing, effortless, even therapeutic & the 6th gear made it extremely economical on motorway runs, regularly recording 60 mpg at 65-70mph on cruise control. i had two manuals 5 speed before the auto and prefer it. i wouldn't have another manual.  i'd recommend one, but it's up to you.

Hello, I know maybe a bit bizarre to resurrect a 7 year-old thread but we are on the verge of buying used pretty much the exact same XTR Auto Multispace as you bought all those year ago (though 2015 model). We are having a bit of last minute freakout about the semi-auto gearbox (EGT6) as have heard some bad reviews in terms of it being more prone to breaking and costly repair. So I'm really curious, how has your experience with it been? Still up and running? Any advice to impart?

Would love to hear your experiences with it to assuage the fears (ideally!), or likewise, maybe persuade us to go manual (which is an option, though auto is preferred).

Thanks so much!

Tidy Motor! I do love those lower silver sections on the XTR bumpers! Congratulations.

I have a light in the back, above the load cover to the right hand side if that's what you mean.

That’s really good to know. When I was under the bonnet at the weekend to disconnected the battery before installing the 307 leather steering wheel, I noticed the knuckles on the top of the rocker cover where an engine cover would press mount onto, I figured mine was missing too, clearly not the case so thanks! I wonder if I can pick on up on eBay or something.

They only fit the felt pad now Ewen, the previous plastic cover doesn't even fit as the mounts are not there.

You may be able to get hold of a tdci ford cover and try to work out where the socket mounts should go then fit those. The hard engine covers were dropped in 2012, mine came with just the felt pad from new.

I also thought it was missing until I tried to find one. There isn't one to find...

Ahh so the two push fit knuckles that are on top of my rocker cover to receipt an engine cover, there’s nothing that fits it directly?

They hold the felt pad on, like flat topped rubber things.

Looks like this:
