Your opinion on this?

I have fitted a length of red led's on the inside edge of each rear light cluster, they are just small enough so they are visible from the rear, but unless they are switched on (wired into tail lights) you'd never know they were there.

They sit just behind the edge of the tailgate.

The only thing is,I should have got a longer length so that they go right up to the top.

Your comments welcome.

My only question, why?
Somedays you're the pigeon, Somedays you're the statue.

a.
I find the tail lights aren't that good, the bulb has to shine through all those small holes and aren't very bright.

b.
I thought it may look nice,a cheap mod.:S

Hi XTR,

I think they look really well and wouldn't mind doing it to my 2004 model but i just have a few of questions.

1- do they bend easily around the lights?
2- where did you buy them?
3- how have you fixed them to the lights?

Personally I like the idea. Anything one can do to attract attention that you are ahead of someone is good IMHO. You wouldn't believe the bone head drivers we have here.

They are very flexible, fully watertight, enclosed in a type of silicone.
They are fitted with 3M double sided tape.
They come in various lengths which you are able to cut to length (usually every three led's or so).

I actually bought them at a truckstop in Belgium, but they are available on e-bay and also at Hellfords and most car accessory shops.

I took the lamp unit off and simply wired into the loom with Scotchlocks the same as they do when wiring a light socket up for a towbar.

I'll try to take a couple more pics later today of them fitted to the rearlamp to show you.

Glad you liked them, and as 3rensho said, anything to make you more visible is a bonus, there really are some muppets on the road.Especially here in Belgium!

Here is one of the strips which is simply stuck on the inside edge of the tail-light....
Make sure the cables are fitted so that water won't enter....
(water won't run uphill) and they just tuck behind the lamp.

With the tailgate closed you can't see the strip.....
And looking directly behind you can only just make it out....
But switch on the sidelights, and hey presto......
I have noticed that the LED's are side view type, but even with the normal SMD type's you should get much the same effect.

Hope this helps.

SCOTCHLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evil things, the only thing scotchlocks are good for is the bin! I cannot believe you have tainted your shiny bingo with scotchlocks. They will haunt you!
