Could someone with a DW8 Diesel Berlingo do me a big favour? Could you tell me how hot the power steering pump pulley gets directly after a 20 minute run?
Reason for asking is this...
About four months ago the Berlingo threw off the accessory belt. The old one was perished and because I don't have the tensioner tool I took it to my local garage. He replaced the top tensioner (siezed) and the rubber belt and said all was OK.
Roll forward to last month and the accessory belt broke! I took it to another local garage and they replaced the middle idler wheel and the belt. (The idler wheel was sticking ever so slightly). All the rest of the bearings seem fine, along with the alternator. No play in the power steering pump either and it rotated freely, although a few mm of end-float which is to be expected.
I have been keeping a close eye on this new belt. What I have noticed is that the power steering pump pulley gets very hot, but curiously, the pump itself stays quite cool.
The pulley seems to be running true and as I said previously the pulley rotated freely by hand. It works fine, there is no lost fluid and it's not leaking..
Can anyone tell me how hot their pulley gets in normal use? I'd expect it to produce some heat but how much is 'normal' for one of these cars?
