Has anyone with a DV6 experienced oil starvation under heavy braking? The reason I ask is yesterday I had to do an emergency stop from 35mph when some nugget pulled-out in front of me. As I came to a stop, I briefly heard a sound like a starved turbo, and as I pulled-up at home about 500mtrs later I noticed a tapping like a worn/loose tappet.
This morning I've checked the oil level and it's very slightly below maximum, so there's plenty in. I know there's a difference in sound between a cold engine and a hot one, but when I started the engine this morning the tapping from the top-end was virtually inaudible. I haven't driven it far enough today to get it up to temp.
The car is just a few miles shy of 100k, and the oil & filter were last changed at 96k.
TIA
Stuart.

You need to do a search on this one try "1.6HDI turbo failure"
From what you have said it sounds like a sump off job and turbo feed pipe modification quickly!

Thanks for that, Polar. I'm going to think seriously about replacing the pick-up pipe, etc. next time I change the oil, as we know very little about the history of the car.
I already change oil & filter every 6k (using low SAPS in the Berlingo) as I don't agree with the extended intervals manufacturers use these days. If I go by the service indicator in my BMW, the oil would only get changed every 30k!

Yes Stu manufacturers Service/oil change intervals are a big problem, add to that after 2 to 3 years old vehicles do not always go back to the main dealer for servicing and you have no idea what spec of oil some of the independent garages are using.
I would say 6000 miles is spot on.
Having read your fist post i really would advise the work you intend to do be done asap.
Good luck.

I'm very grateful for your input, Polar. Is there a write-up for the job anywhere on the forum, do you know? Searching isn't giving me much info. What I'm really after is some idea of how long it's likely to take me.

I'll see if I can find a link to it. Definitely there, but involves a Picasso with the same engine.

I couldn't find it either. I was just about to see if I can find it through RichardW's profile.

It's described in text how to do it in this buying guide by RichardW.
There's also photos of the job somewhere, I think also by RichardW
