[Transmission] Berlingo drive shaft oil seal replacement advice please.
#1
Hi
Just wondering if anyone has a how to guide on replacing the oil seal in my gearbox where the drive shaft goes fits into.(passenger side) please. 2004 Berlingo 1.9d
I am assuming it is the oil seal.
I replaced the strut yesterday and while replacing it the hub pulled the drive shaft out a little bit and oil started to leak from the gearbox. i pushed the drive shaft back in which stopped the oil(or so i though) coming out quickly but when i got up this morning there is a drip coming from the gearbox where the shaft goes in.

How much oil? It may only be residual oil dropping off.

Thanks for the reply Ron.
I thought it was maybe residual oil but i cleaned the oil up from last night and there was a little pool this morning and its kept dripping throughout today. Sad

The seal is easy to replace just be careful to drift it in square & feed the shaft in slow & level. While you're at it,changing the trans oil is always a good idea.Synthetic,of course. Wink Big Grin

On the nearside the job is as it looks but when I did the seal on mine I found the CV joint was badly choroded where it meets the seal so I had to wire wool the face to a smooth clean finish. No problems since ( fingers crossed ) it has been approx 15k miles ... The Drivers side I haven't attempted yet..
