[Engine] Van problems
#1
Hi all, like I said in my intro, first berlingo and joined for some help if any problems arise hopefully someone can point me in the right direction as I've hit problems already.
I bought the van on Wednesday knowing it needed a new battery which I got the following day. I fitted the battery and van started fine, until the next morning. I tried to start it and it turned over strong but wouldn't fire up but you could here it trying. After a few tries it started with a lot of smoke and engine was very rough and jumpy for about 15 seconds then idled nicely.
I tested the glow plugs with a multimeter and they all seem fine. Over the last 2 days I've been cleaning it etc and not had any reason to drive it until yesterday. It started after a few turns but wasn't driving right was very spluttery but got to where I needed to. After about an hour I came to start the van again but no use, was turning over strongly but took ages to start then when it did start it ran for about 10 seconds then died.
Someone put a booster pack on the battery and she started and got me to the petrol station to fill up with some diesel but when I came to start it again it wasn't having any of it and took a good few try's to get her started.
I suspect it's a fuel issue but hopefully someone can give me some idea's what it might be. I've noticed one of the fuel injectors is wet whereas the other 3 are dry. Could this have something to do with it. I've tried contacting the mechanic I bought it off but he's ignoring me. He told me engine has been re built for a customer and you can see work has been done but customer couldn't pay for the repairs so handed over the van to mechanic and he was selling it to get his money back.

Did you follow the BSI reset procedure when refitting new battery?
I would definitely do all you can to contact the seller and get your money back.
Good luck.

Best do that first and see if it helps, you never know!
I would have thought the seller, especially being a mechanic, should have metioned this knowing it needed a new battery fitting.

I know. Think he just wanted rid of the van and I'm the fool that bought it. Should the bsi reset be done everytime the battery has been disconnected or just when a new battery fitted?

Just done the bsi reset and van seems to start fine now but that might just be in my head but is starting after only a few turns now which is much better. Will take it for a drive shortly and see what happens. Thanks

Well this morning van back to not starting, Had to push the prime button lots of times next to the fuel filter before it finally started.  Sad Also noticed when driving it that there is a loud crunching noise when turning right.

Sorry BSI reset didn't work, at least it rules one thing out. Looks like you may have a fuel related problem. If it's just had a major engine rebuild and won't run properly, only that mechanic knows what work he has done and that mechanic only is to blame.
Have you tried contacting him again?

Yep, tried ringing him yesterday but no answer. Going to drive back to him today.
