Replacement key

Hi all,

Having had a couple of experiences when the engine turns but won't start my local (Spanish) Citroen dealer tells me it is probably the chip within the key that is at fault. Has anyone any experience of this? If so, how much, in the U.K. to replace the key with a fob type that has the remote locking included?

Assuming that you no longer have the two keys which were supplied with the vehicle.

I just paid a Citroen repairer £66 for a new key and matching it to my Berlingo and ensuring that any previous key would no longer function with my car.
£28.29 for the key, £26.50 labour plus VAT.

Hi mate,

I still have the two keys as supplied with the vehicle. However, the one that I normally use (which has the buttons for central locking on the fob) has the 'dodgy' chip. I have the spare but this does not have the central locking buttons. I wondered if it was possible to change the chip? Maybe Citroen can do this without needing to make up a whole new key? Maybe I need to buy the whole lot, I'm not sure. I would rather just keep the spare as such for emergencies.

TBH...I would think that the key would need to be changed.
I can't see any vehicle manufacturer supplying components for
for a part.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the replies. Having made some further enquiries it now seems that I will have to buy a complete new key. Oh, well! Whilst discussing this issue with another Berlingo owner it was suggested that it was best to turn the ignition key and then WAIT for the warning lamps to go out prior to starting. This, somehow, can remedy the fault. It apparently did on his! No knowledge is wasted! Sorry to rub it in but it is now 40 degrees and THAT is not funny!
