[Steering & Suspension] How to replace WISHBONE BUSH on the Lower arm

Hi all,

I went for my Belgium MOT today and got a red card so:  
I need to replace my  front Anti Roll Bar Bushing WISHBONE BUSH (not sure that is the right name?) Front Lower arm sounds better!
on the Lower arm. wishbone bushes, those rubber things like     Like this I expect!    

Has anyone done this? (any tips)

What tools are required? (or what do I need?)

Do I have to take out the balljoint? (because I hate doing that)

           

I also got told to clean up the oil! like every year
Any ideas  everything welcome?

A straightforward job really and if you know how to remove the ball joint then you are most of the way there .... yes you will have to remove the ball joint !

For what it is worth I would replace the wishbone complete rather than just the one joint as the others on that side won't be that far behind, not that much more money.

I will give you a little hint. When you undo the balljoint bolt not only push down but also knock a chisel with a hammer to split the gap open, then it will just slide on and off easily. Yes, there is a recess from the inside where a chisel can go in. When you are working in there try not to do anything stupid with the drive shafts as you may pull them out. The rear section you need to replace can be a bit of a bitch from alignment stand point, especially since the stabilizer bar bracket is also held with the same bolt/nut

I went and got the bits, yes I agree with you about changing the whole set.

I just hope I can get the old ones off with just a few hand tools, what's good to use, probably my favourite hammer?
And take the balljoints out without damaging the rubber seals!

The first balljoint I did just with a chisel hammer crowbar, it was a bit of a bloody mess and seemed to take a few hours!
The second my brother sent me his old fork (see pic) and a few wacks and it came out.

Don't like the sound of the "stabilizer bar bracket is also held with the same bolt/nut" !
Maybe I should get a spare balljoint in case I mess one up getting it out!

Steering joint and rubber damage ....... Just put pressure on the track rod arm whilst using a sharp hammer blow sideways on the cast section where the TRE sits, it will pop out easily and there is no damage.

Well I got the balljoint off with out a hitch.
had to cut off the wishbone brush with an angle grinder and chisel, and had a hard time fitting the new!

Then I found the bolt tread under the new wishbone is bigger than the old one.
I was going to get a replacement bolt, but the Citroën dealer said they had to order a box of five, which by the time you add up all the bolts came to £40 - 50€! and as my brush is a non Citroën dealer I wonder if I should go for a non Citroën bolt?
 
So does any one know if it's a standard bolt and what size, it looks about 10mm?
or you really have to get the Citroën one in a box of?

Got some from the citroën dealer (1.51€ +vat ) about £1 each bolt     
I do wonder why the wishbone has to be so tight a fit?
