Grinding Noise when Braking

My van went into the garage for its MOT and got them to have a look at the brakes and pads as there is a problem when braking. If I brake normally there is no grinding noise, but if I have to brake sharply due to someone pulling out on me there is a grinding noise on the nearside front wheel. The garage said the brakes and Pads are fine and the Pads have another 6-8,000 miles left on them. Any ideas on what else the problem could be.

back shoe breaks,
how you now is camming from front?
lift up car place one person inside start spinning wheel and start brake, if you lucky it will show where is problem.

check pads by your self one of them might be worn.
