I have just replaced the thrust bearing on my Berlingo 1.9d BE4R gearbox and as I drove away there was a loud bang !!!! The speedo stopped working..
On further inspection the speedo drive shattered, luckily the gearbox can stay in to replace it, the drive is only a bit of plastic attached to the O/S drive shaft but the driveshaft needs to come out to replace it. Best thing is the new drive costs just £6.19 plus VAT... Part number c264304..
My advice would be to buy one along with the fork and guide bush..
