What Bad Experiences Have you Had?

Had any bad experiences whilst owning a Berlingo? Im talking reliability/performance/break down wise. Basically anything that was the Berlingos fault.

Ive not personally, but on my current van, my two front tyres don't grip at all in the wet. That will need sorting soon as we are coming into winter. And they arent cheap tyres.

The worst thing that happened with my 53 plate HDi Multi was it ate its clutch at 60K miles.
Fiddly job to do, but could have been worse - the clutch came in at just under £140 and took me 2 days (but Im not a mechanic).

The blower motor went open circuit and I had the "fans on full chat" problem, but that was cured with a new Valeo resistor pack for £20 and some rampant swearing whilst fitting.

Otherwise it was all good.

They are pretty good all round vans. From what i know, they aren't known for anything in particular. Where as other vans do have common faults. Saying that...

The most i've dished out is £250 for a new BSI unit. The problem is not corrected still, think i need a new com2000 unit.

It all started when my lights began playing up. Then my BSI overheated >>> melted. Changed the BSI, sidelights wouldnt come on. But there was a slight mousey squeak each time i turned the lights on. So i followed the sound and it was coming from the speakers/stereo.

Botch i know, but i unplugged all the radio equipment, and now no squeaking and sidelights work. So i think its my com2000 (with the lights and radio both on it [maybe anyway]).

Hi , ive had 2 1.6 hdi models one a first and the other the latest model and with both the dipstick tube has broken off , possibly with engine vibration as the cast bracket at the top breaks away from the engine so when you check your oil and pull the dip stick out the whole tube comes away .I ve recently got a new 60 plate one so will wait and see. In both cases the vans had only done about 10 k. Also Ive noticed that on the new model the rear tyres wear before the front which is unusual with the weight of the engine and steering/ drive at the front , the rears were really worn on the inside on both tyres around 25k and when I got my new van my old one had 31k on it and still on the origonal front tyres.

Yeah 3 seats in the front not that there is legroom for the middle passenger but.....
1.6 Hdi 75 LX. Done 31k in my 09 plate with only the dipstick problem , but must say that having had two first models the latest is more comfortable and car like to drive and IMO handles really well and is a little bigger for my tools etc, but one thing that I dont like is when you stop and get out then go to either the back door or side door they remain locked until you either press the button to unlock them which is just above the gearstick or press the rear door button on the remote , I always forget this.
A good feature I think is that the steering wheel has reach and rake adjustment.

I will try and write one up, but basically I used the Xsara HDi Haynes BOL and a mate who has a fair idea about these things on day 2 when I was struggling to put the clutch back together.

My rear door will not lock unless I kick it shut. then it will fly open if I accellerate quickly

In 58000 miles i have had 1 dipstick broken , 2 dipstick tubes broken , the plastic inner front wings have both come loose and are now held on with large selftaping screws & washers . The heat shield that covers the turbo has metal fatigue and rattles , lots of rattles from interior plastics . The tray under the engine has split & has been repaired with pop rivets . Front brakes went metal to metal at 52000 miles even tho serviced at main dealer . 3 windscreens & 1 foglight damaged by flying objects .water Leak from original aerial .cd player gave up about 18 months ago. The glass fixing screws on all back opening windows came loose and several fell out & were lost

I have Toyo Proxes CF1, Andre, on the front only yet (rears are fine). They grip fine in wet & dry. Even in the 4+ inches of snow last weekend never got stuck once, in fact overtook many 'sliders' and abandoned.
Not expensive; less than £90 balanced/new valves/fitted for the pair. Recommended.:thumbsup:
