Hi , just bought an 07 plate berlingo 1.6 hdi van as a replacement for my ageing escort. 

First impressions....bloody hell it's quick!!   Pulls really well compared to the 1.8d escort.

It needs a bit of work to get it fully sorted so I will be asking a lot of questions as I'm used to old diesels and have never had a "modern" engine.

Hi & welcome Baz. !st thing to do is change the oil & filter using the correct spec.They do not suffer slack maintenance.Good Luck.

I've bought a set of filters (oil, air, fuel) from my local motor factors and plan on doing the oil tomorrow night. They recommended 10w/40 , is this the right oil?
