No Service History

Hi Yea,

I've just purchased a 2011 Mk2 Berlingo (It must of been hiding in the back of a garage somewhere) with 89k miles but doesn't have a service history with it. Is there anything specific I should check before I start using it. I'll give it the once over myself and change the oil and filter, have a look at the brakes, etc, etc... but is there anything else I should check out??

Is it a good idea to maybe change the timing belt at this point, just as a precaution??

Hi prunty you don't say what engine you have but without any history I would be checking and changing all the service items and the cam belt. You could try the supplying dealer for a copy of the service history as its probably been back there at the start of its life or if it was a company car try the fleet operator for a print out.

A Multispace or van? The Mk3 came out in early 2008 so yours must have either languished for at least 3 years before being registered or perhaps it was an import? Quite high mileage if it was 2011 multispace although quite possible for a van.

Replace all fluids, all filters, all belts, all brake pads.

Check the front brake discs and all rubber brake hoses.

Thanks for the comments. It's a 1.6 hdi Van and was supplied new from Arnold Clake somewhere close to Edinburgh. I've been talking to them but the van hasn't been back from it was purchased. It was owned by a fleet company for most of it's like but the service history has been lost by a third party in the short period between the fleet company owning it and it getting to me and unfortunately the fleet company doesn't hold onto service records once the vehicle has been moved on.

Like most fleet vehicles I would be fairly happy that it got serviced as per Citreon's requirements as these guys generally don't vary from this specification, but it's just a shame that the history has been lost.

At that mileage I would change the cam belt without doubt better be safe than sorry.
Make sure you use the correct Citroen approved oil as well.
