Steel wheels on semi-auto XTR

Hi all,just wondered has anyone any idea why Berlingoes with semi-auto box has 15in steel wheels instead of 16in alloys??.I did ask the dealer and he did not have a clue.I also e-mailed Citroen,they never even replied.There is a 15in alloy as an optional extra at £560 for a set,but i see that as a rip off so wont pay for them..

If the alloys are an optional extra that's why the steels are fitted, they can't sell them with no wheels fitted as it would mess up the showroom floors. What is the big attraction of alloys, they don't make it go any better than steel wheels with hub caps.

Mine has 15" steels on, when I ordered 'grip control' then the 16" alloys were removed from the list. I wonder if the steels somehow send information to the grip control?

Hi ffrenchie,all the XTR range has 16in alloys as standard,but if its auto they put 15 in steels on them.I was just wondering why they are a paid for extra on the auto. I don't like the alloys personally they take to much looking after.

Hi Trevor,The grip control or traction control as they call it is now standard fitting on the XTR and according to Citroen website that's with 16in alloys.The XTR auto loses the all road pack and the alloys.I think Citroen are just cutting anything they can to save a few bob !.Which is
extracting the urine a bit as they charge extra  for the auto..Ah well,that's the joys of motoring!

I asked this when I brought mine and dealer confirmed what I thought that the auto is an Eco model, and it needs the smaller wheels to achieve those official figures. Bigger tyre walls help and even steel rims help a fraction too. You also see hubs a lot on vw eco specials

Got the auto too and was thinking about buying a set of alloys. Having perved over a few parked berlingos it seems they are all have 16's in the alloys and have a narrower tyre on.

Personally for what its worth its steel every time.The roads that we have here in England are no better than tracks what with the speed humps,potholes and other problems,you know yourself all you have to do is touch a pavement with a alloy wheel,[ this is not a case of if but " when " ] repairs are very expensive,let alone the amount of hours cleaning all the brake dust off,ive also got a Merc SLK just for fun,i hate the damn wheels ! Steels are durable and cheap,and you can buy some very nice covers these days which are cheap enough to change every so often when they become damaged.Ive got some lovely ones on my Berlingo very similar to the steel wheeled Berlingo but a full set cost me £20 for ebay brand new and only require a quick clean with a soft brush and water occasionally.
