[Engine] Radiator bottom hose clip?

Bottom radiator hose popped off whilst waiting for a car parking space yesterday- steam everywhere!

Before refilling, I managed to push the hose back into the radiator pipe.

It's the 1.4 radiator where the hose goes inside the pipe rather than round it, then a little metal clip goes round the pipe?

Is this right? It appears to have gone in as far as it can, and the clip has gone back round, radiator refilled OK and car has got up to temperature when left to idle (rad fans came on and off again).  Also car went for a journey (20miles) without overheating, and I don't think it has leaked?

Is it likely to go again?  Never come across weird clips like that before- would it be better sticking a Jubilee round it to hold it better?

The end of the hose has a metal fitting with 'knobs' that fits grooves on the inside of the radiator pipe. each of those grooves have a cut across them so that the metal clip placed outside will fit in those cuts and 'reach through' the pipe to lock the knobs in place.

I would advice to get a new gasket for the fitting.

Also, remember to jack up the lefthand front quarter before bleeding the system.
(A bit of a quirk with the 1.4)

EDIT: The clip should only need to hold back about 1.4Bar of pressure. This is because there's a valve in the radiator cap that should open if the system ever reaches that pressure.

As Above - make sure the clip is ok and a smear of washing up liquid helps it go in easier.

Thanks. Seems to be holding out ok for now, will check again at weekend. Didn't replace gasket- is this a Citroen only part?
Can't help it wonder why it popped off in first place?

Yes, a very daft way of making a simple joint- what's wrong with a Jubilee clip?

I'm guessing it has to do with ease of fitting during the assembly of the car.

The gasket is the same on the Pug, and as I understand it, a few others using the same engine. It's a bit weird in that it has an almost square cross-section, and in fact looks more like oil-seals on motorbike front shocks.
It's not all that expensive (at worst £5) and quite a few British parts dealers have them.
(Don't ask me for a link or part number right now... )
