anyone know how you turn off the rds function on radio rds always appears on radio display and causes radio to get poor reception

I downloaded a owner's manual earlier & found the following about turning on the RDS. Guessing it's the same to turn it off. 

1) Press the MENU button 
2) Select AUDIO FUNCTIONS then press OK
3) Select the FM WAVEBAND PREFERENCES function then press OK. 
4) select ACTIVATE FREQUENCY FOLLOWING (RDS)  then press OK. RDS appears on the display.

I didn't know how to post a screenshot so copied it out, the above is how it's printed in the manual.
