Lack of high revs?
#1
Hi  to all,

Just picking brains far better than mine (flattery always helps!)

My 2006 1.6 hdi starts runs drives fine in 'normal ' mode but should the red mist decent or late mid life crisis rears its head and i require a change down and a lead boot for speed, my revs refuse to go beyond 4800-5000 looking for ideas, have read several posts on valve clearances, could that do it? any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

From what I remember of my 1.6hdi you are wasting your time reving the diesel that high. Peak torque was at about 1750 revs and power was at about 2700. All you are doing is reving the crap out of it and burning fuel, Its all about riding the torque curve and correct gear.
Are we there yet????? Huh
Ex 1.6hdi van now 3 seater 1.4 multispace

Hydraulic lifters on 1.6hdi aren't they ? That means self adjusting so you can't do anything but swap them for new ones if they stop working.
So where does this bit go then ?

I know the early Berlingoes were very sensitive to oil level.I'm not sure why but if you overfill by just the slightest amount the engine wont rev,but it does create a lot of smoke from the exhaust as well.Just a thought !
