fitting double din head unit in 61 plate

ok guys looking to take the stock radio out and put a new one in my 61 ple belingo multispace....like the look of the double size one with the big screen ....also looking to put a dab and maybe bluetooth ....and would love some storage like internal memory hd .....what i need to know is my stock radio now controls some disply functions will this still be possible with a after market radio and any advice on what to get..has anyone done this can it even be done .....cheers guys and thanks in advance ....kev

Hi Kev,

It can be done, I've just installed a Pioneer double din system, including DAB, sat nav & parking camera in my 12 plate XTR. I'll be towing a caravan so the camera is pointed down at the (removable) towbar so that I can back-up to the caravan with ease!

You will need the to use the Connects2 CTSCT003.2  interface lead if you want to maintain the use of the steering controls AND the system menu functions. Fit the Autoleads version and you won't be able to set the clock (I found out from experience)

You'll need to cut and remove the centre plastic bar below the original radio, this is easy to do.

I would also recommend fitting CT24PE11 fascia surround, it will tidy up the installation.

Only issue I have is that with the illumination wire connected, the stereo is permanently dimmed. It appears that 12v is supplied through this feed all the time the lights are off. I need to either take a lighting source from elsewhere or use a relay to sort the problem.

If you don't mind me asking... How does the interface lead actually allow the clock to be set? Cause that's usually done with the buttons on the original head unit.

I ask because I've also put a Pioneer HU in my car (albeit simpler single din unit) and have so far just put up with losing the stalk controls and the clock being wrong...

It mean's you can set the clock and so on using the stalk controls

With the interface lead I have it lets you access the system menu by holding down both volume buttons on the stalk for a few seconds. It is more fiddly to navigate than using the original stereo menu but the compromise is worth it!

Hi there
I've got a double din Parrot Astroid Smart fitted and have managed to set the hour on the clock by pressing the vol up and down together on the steering wheel control. I just can't find a way of navigating to the minutes though ?
Has anyone managed it ?

Yes Jonathan.

I used a changeover relay (has a normally closed as well as a normally open contact) 

The feed from the lights is wired to the + of the relay coil, I tapped into the electric aerial / power amp output and wired that to the common terminal of the the relay and then the lighting feed to the stereo is wired to the normally closed contact of the relay. 

Hopefully that makes sense!
