[Tires & Wheels] Time for New Tyres
#31
I've just bought 5 Michelin Cross Climate tyres, £80 each all in from Charles Hurst Tyres. Not noisier just a different sound to the original Michelin Energy Savers that lasted 27K.  First impressions - car feels a lot more 'sure footed' in the dry and even more so in the wet, very pleased.    Shy

PS just had a few days of snow and ice, new tyres seemed fine, I don't think I'd do better without studs or chains!

I just wonder - what's the downside?  Surely there must be one, or all tyres would be like this.  Do they create more drag, so give lower mpg?

Here's wikipedia's info...

There are claims that it may increase or decrease tyre wear!  Perhaps it is just an all-round improvement, in which case all tyres could end up looking like them.  They're still a relatively new innovation, so time will tell.

Kwik Fit in NI wanted £106 each all in!!!

First i've heard of Michelin Cross Climate? (Takes head out of paper bag)
I've got Alpine 5's on for winter and was going to treat her to some new summers as one is bald, ones got 2 punctures and the other 2 have varying degrees of tread left.

Seem to get good reviews too, £89 each.

Found that site a few years ago Doofer after I paid Kwik-fit for my first set of Alpine A4's for my Toyota and got a massive screw in the tyre wall! After hitting the net and finding them I've never used any where else for Tyre purchase and Kwik-Fit just charge me fitting/Balance when I take them in.

If your not Brand fussy, theres some really cheap tyres on there for people who just want black and round!
