Cat removal?
#1
So, my 2002 1.9 diesel spat its exhaust off earlier in the week - snapping just on the down pipe. The back box is okay but the downpipe and middle section is junk.
So, my question, with it being a 2002 model (ie the same as the 2001) can I fit a non-catalytic centre pipe rather than the 2002's version? Seems daft to be spending money on a new cat when I don't have to fit one...

You can de-cat, but as of February 2014 your car will fail its MOT if a cat isn't present where one was originally fitted to a vehicle.

If your not in the uk the rules may differ.

I fitted a non cat middle pipe a while ago, it looked as if there was a cat . It had a cat shaped box with nothing in it , Passes MOTs no problems.

I got it from a German firm , took a fortnight or so to come but at £30 odd quid was worth the wait.

Unfortunately I think they have stopped making them now.

Thanks all, great link DanClark, another piece of retrospective legislation that we've had foisted upon us... :-(
Looks like I'll have to stump up the cash then...

38 sold - popular item.

I was going to suggest getting one from a scrappy and smash the guts out, common practice on many vehicles but the above at £31.22 delivered sounds a reasonable price.
