My thoughts entirely, though the basic model is £80 (terrible layout on the web page).
I've been thinking about some kind of magnetic-fitting windbreak down the sides to make a kind of awning with the tailgate open. I'm sure, even with my lack of haberdashery skills, it shouldn't be too tricky to knock up.

Give it a go mate, you might suprise yourself.... A while back (2-3 years ago) I had the craze for kite flying and ended up making several of my own. The materials used are the same as modern tents etc, Polyurethane coated ripstop nylon. Poles etc could be scrounged/donated from an old frame tent or even new fibreglass tubing. You would need to reinforce edges and seams and use polyester thread. A domestic sewing machine can be used with care but stronger heavier duty needles need to be used.

Have a look here http://www.thehighwaymen.co.uk/ as a starting point for materials and fitting. I use a haberdashery shop near to me in Stoke on Trent for my ripstop which is often for sale as seconds or roll-ends... let us know how you go on
