Multifunction screen and assoiated electronics

Hi,
I want to add an outside temperature sensor to the N/S door mirror of my 2008 Berlingo 1.6 HDI 90 van, this will require replacing the existing multifunction screen with a multiline one. My problem is how can I find out if the existing electronics (ecu etc) are able to provide the necessary information. Can anybody help me please?

That's no problem my head is full of stuff that is usually of no use to anyone but that one stuck in my mind.
