Mk1 & mk2 front ends
#1
Just wondering if the mk1 & mk2 front ends are interchangeable? I know you wil need bumper, bonnet, wings, lights and slam panel but is it pretty much just swap everything over or does it not fit? I have a mk1 at the minute and a mate is breaking his mk2 van and I quite fancy swapping to a mk2 front end

I would just trade my Mark 1 in for a Mark 2 and save myself a lot of hassle over the Winter period! lol!

Think with my project a mk1 will be better to use as the mk2 has multiplex wiring if I remember right and I plan to fit my gti6 conversion in my mk1 what will be a lot easyer to wire up, that's why I ask.

One reason for the 'facelift' was that they improved the crash-protection of the car. So they have redesigned the crumple-zones. I don't know if that will conflict with fitting those parts.

The sides of the engine bay have definitely changed, among other things to fit the new headlights, so whether or not the wings will fit...
Some metalwork may be needed...

That said, I think the Mk. I front looks better than the Mk. II.
It has a slightly more 'aggressive' look.

I just like how bulky the front of the mk2 looks over the mk1
