Had to change the front pads, only managed 132450 miles with them, rears still like new on same mileage, mechanic can't get over it :-).
Changed heater plugs no drama's, all filters fresh oil and drained the gearbox and put fresh in,lovely and sweet change now, ready for the busy run upto Xmas peep peep. :-)

Sounds to me like a faulty brake distribution valve ? This is located under the car near the rear axel and has a large spring attached to it. They do get stuck because they get gummed up with road crap. Might be worth a look at...
Riding the brake pedal will also cause front brake wear as will binding callipers.. Unless the vehicle is an Automatic, then the front brakes will take a bit more of a beating than a manual due to the lack of engine breaking..
Were the break pads Original or pattern ? I find pattern brake parts don't last and quite often the pads are considerably more dusty.

I thought I was good getting 60k plus out of my pads...
Anyway - I agree with the post title - terrible French piece of rubbish. Mines up past 70k now and I have to give it an oil change and wipe with an oily rag every year... It even demands a fresh tank of diesel most weeks. Ridiculous!
