Hi, Currently doing up a 2004 1.6 16v Partner for my Mum. its done 82K and the clutch pedal was really stiff. Just replaced the clutch with a full clutch kit from Valeo it even came with a plastic centralising dowel so that was a bonus. Just to say its an easy and straightforward job with several guides on the web so wont reproduce here.
The springs in the cover plate work harden with age due to repeated clutch operation making it real still as it gets older. In summary remove battery and tray, release bottom ball joints from lower wishbones, remove drive shafts, disconnect gear linkage and a bunch of connectors, support engine and box remove nearside engine mount and various gearbox to engine bolts and slide it off.
Clutch is now great not heavy at all and nice smooth action. Put some moly grease on the splines and release bearing tube.
