oil leak
#1
hi chaps  got a few issues had the van a month now so iam in that paranoid faze ha ha, done a oil and filter service with correct spec oil and filter, and changed air filter it was like the oil very very dirty, but the air pipe from filter down to the turbo had some oil inside it is coming out of the crankcase breather thingy, some has also been running down the underside of the  pipe so you carnt see it really till you remove it to get at the oil filter,  I noticed the old oil was right to the top atleast of the dip stick, so I have re-fild to 1/4" below max, seen a photo some were on another forum of the turbo air pipe with the same oil smattering on it,so is it normal,  oh turbo had no play in it I had a little wiggle, the oil was apparently last changed in august was the blackest oil I have ever seen,so I might change it a few more times in the next 2-3 months, the van is a 2010 with a stamp from main dealer at 11k then a independent at about 21k and one last aug, its only done 27k I have all the old mots to help back up mileage, it drives ok,goin to check if the injector 7mm bolts are loose, and any leaks beside them in a minute, I will get back and post again with results, but iam a bit worried with the posts all over the internet slaughtering this engine and the constant fight to keep theb lack as s**t  oil from f###cking up the turbo etc etc  sorry for lon post but iam new to this type of thing, paddy.

I wouldn't worry about the oil colour, it goes black almost immediately. Oil vapour from the breather is also normal but shouldn't be leaking out anywhere, a favorite place is the large O ring at the turbo outlet which is easy to replace. I would clean it all up with Jizer or Gunk etc and it will be easy to see exactly where the oil is coming from.

If you have major concerns you can drop the sump and check the pick up strainer for sludge but it's not easy to do without having the van on a lift. It sounds like your engine has been looked after so there's little reason to worry.

thanks solent, its all wiped spotless now back at work tomorrow so I will no this week , but its defo coming out of the crank case vent breather into and around that o ring you mention and it then runs down to lowest point and drops onto top of the radiator top hose which is directly underneath, not a lot but that was just after a afew trips over xmas, anyway I will take some pics of it next time mate, oh checked the injector bolts all tight and spotless all around them.

At 27k miles, provided oil changes have been carried out & correct oil used there really should be nothing wrong with van at all. Most engines run for large mileages with no probs at all provided oil/filter changes are carried out. Unless injectors are chuffing & you can smell diesel, I would not touch them. The oil will go black soon after it's changed so nothing to worry about there.

thank for the reassurance guys, I think it was filled up to much coz since I changed it and kept it just below max up till today no leak, 3 days driving so far so good, I did notice the emissions warning light looked it up in the book and its to do with the cat-converter, well that warning light stays on for about2 secs longer than all the others when starting, is that normal? oh and the preheat symbol doesn't come on in the morning when starting from cold but it starts ok all the same strange eh ? Confused
