Rainwater ingress ?? Help

hi ,i have just joined as i need help !!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have bought a 2004 berlingo van, 1.9d 600lx, i have noticed a leak, the drivers footwell is always damp, plus the sponge section that runs alongside the fusebox is also, i checked the rainwater drain Below windscreen and hey presto was rammed full up with gunk, leaves ,pine needles etc, i managed to remove all of this with a rod and watering can to clear , and it now pours through to the wheel arch as supposed to,great !!! the footwell is still damp a week later ?? i just pulled up the carpet as much as i could its absolutley soaking beneath, !!!!could probably allow a small goldfish to live in quite happily ive just removed a good litre or so with a sponge,there isnt much sign of rust or mold etc so im wondering if this is just the backlog of the water i used to drain the well ?? its not dirty water, and ive now propped up the carpet and removed the plug from floor to aid the drying process, the spongey bit by the fusebox is still wet as well and im not sure if water is still getting in ?? ive trawled the net and was wondering if anyone has a solution ?? idea etc as would be most appreciated, thanks, i also have another problem but that can wait as the van is off the road at the moment, any help would be greatly appreciated

This is not an uncommon problem. Try a search as there have been a few threads about it with some solutions.

I have a similar problem with mine, but as yet, have not found the cure.

There was a problem with a large piece of foam type stuff on the front bulkhead, under the trim where the wipers are. It was suggested to remove this and replace it with a piece of waterproof material. I did do this but it only helped a bit - not solved the problem.

Keep us posted as to how you get on

I don't think the car as such is leaking anything, it's def rainwater, this evening I have had the carpet back and poured water over roof/windscreen , after a minute it starts to drip in the far right corner just behind some cabling under the fuse box, the seal on my windscreen looks a bit decayed as well but windows are normally glued in so it may not be that, I was trying to get the cover off under wipers but cannot get the wiper arms off ?? They won't budge ?? Do you need a special tool as I dont want to Damage them .... I've put gaffer tape around windscreen seals so after tonight's rain I may be able to rule that out

Hi, I've only had my 2000 multispace a few weeks but I was looking through the pile of receipts that I got with it and in amongst them there is one for having the windscreen refitted for just the reason that you have asked about, it seems that the screen was leaking at the bottom corner on the drivers side.

I am hoping that this may be the case, I'm hoping that if I get the wiper blades off, (there stuck solid) then I can confirm
This fault, it sounds like a good explanation, would a company such as autoglass help me with this Or any cheaper alternatives ??

Looking at it now this looks like a likely cause, the triangular shaped outer rubber is loose and the inner rubber looks mouldy at corner !!! Maybe clear silicone may be a quick fix ??? Looking down though water should run past into the well I need to get these wipers off to confirm as I can't see if waters getting in under screen , any help on the wipers would be great guys , I'm a sparky and mechanics isn't my strong point haha

I have just seen another post where a guy says there is a pencil sized hole in the bulkhead that water gets to, you have to remove the wheel and wheel arch lining to see it, this is the area where I have water coming in , he also says that the build up od debris allows more water to get to this hole, makes a lot of sense in my case as I had a massive build up of debris in the windscreen well, he says the hole is just below this, I will investigate tomorrow !! He also says that in order to
Dry the footwell it needs to be cut out with a Stanley !!! That's not good news :-(

To get the wipers off I use a small three legged puller - not expensive, only a coupleof quid from a market or cheap tool shop. It must be a small one though to allow clearance. You also need a bit of patience as it's a right fanny about trying to hold all three legs in place and tighten it at the same time. Keep at it, you'll get there. ou only need them to crack off the spindle then they are esay to move

Whilst in there, you will see on the right hand side near the drain ahere the cables enter the cabin, worth shrouding this too.

Any more info on this pencil sized hole? I have to have the wheels off later this week so will take the opportunity to look for it then

You also need a bit of patience as it's a right fanny about trying to hold all three legs in place and tighten it at the same time.

I find a bit of soft wire or rubber band wrapped around the puller legs holds them in place

I had exactly the same problem, but only the drivers side of my van, finally up to an inch of water when I took the seat and carpet out. The fault was a pencil sized hole behind the black plastic wheel liner. Jack up the car or van, remove the wheel and liner (held on with plastic plugs) and right in the corner where the inner wing and firewall meet about 3" below the drivers side wiper area drain hole there is a line of weld and mastic. On 2 vehicles (mine and a neighbours) Citreon have failed to fill the hole with mastic. Normally this does not matter as the drained water travels on down behind the wheel liner and out but over time debris collects behind the liner, stops the water flowing out and it finds it way through the hole. You can,t see it from inside because of the upper carpet behind the throttle pedal. You need to remove seat and carpet even when you,ve filled hole because the carpet foam retains the water unless you hang it up for a week. To save removing both seats and full carpet, unscrew central gearstick and hand brake plastics just enough to be able to cut carpet with a stanley knife under the plastics (TAKE CARE NOT TO CUT WIRING). I,ve never had a problem since filling this hole! Citreon.......TAKE NOTE. I copied this for you to read , I cannot take credit

Earlier this year I had the same issue. Had to take the drivers side carpet out for almost a week to get it properly dry.

The water was coming in though a seam on the inside of the drivers wheel arch, just behind the accelerator pedal. Tried sealing it from the out side and inside with no luck.

The only way I stopped the leak was to remove the plastic scuttle cover under the wiper arms and using some black plastic sheet,(think it was builders damp proof sheet), I cut a new rain water cover to sit the fill length of the scuttle tray.

Since its been fitted I've not had one drop of water in the van footwell. TBH honest you can't even tell the new cover is there.
