Overhead heater
#1
Hi Guys.

We have recently bought a 2008 (2nd Gen) 1.6hdi berlingo multspace VTR.

It has a roof consol that runs through the middle of the roof with some vents that over look the rear seats. The vents work and the rear blower works fine however there is no hot air being pumped through to the rear seats although it says in the manual that it should match the heat from the front blowers.

The vehicle was bought recently from a garage which fitted a brand new blower and resistor in the front end, so we know thats all good.

Can anyone help out.

Cheers

In both my old Mk2 and now Mk3 I have never had heat through the roof blowers. I would love to see the page from your manual where it says it does, just for my own interest.

Hi Trevor

Here is a copy of the manual you can see on page 81 that it say's

'Vents A 3-position control allows you to adjust the quantity of air discharged. The temperature of the air diffused by these vents is identical to that selected for the front vents. These vents are also fi tted with a fragrance diffuser. '

So i took it that it means warm air should pass through these vents.

That is a confusing description from Citroen, it does sound like it is warmed, all I have ever found is that the air from those vents is the same as the air circulating inside the car. I cant remember on my Mk 3 where the air intake is for the vents but on my Mk2 it was just in front of the vents.
Maybe a heating element up there is an optional extra?

Solent .. yes it is ..

My B9 Pug partner from 2011 also has this modutop fan. It serves only as a blower, nothing else, no electric resistances for heating of any sort. It collects air above the driver and front passenger, and delivers it to the back passengers. The air it blows out will be at the temperature you have it above the driver´s head. It helps to make the interior temperature homogeneous more quickly, and it also brings to the back passengers some "wind drag" temperature sensation. In summer it works nicely with the aircon for cooling. It is not so nice for heating purposes in winter time, as for it to be comfortable for the back passengers, the air temperature above the driver´s head must be very high...
In the end I find heating and cooling are faster and optimal when done according to heated air properties: hot air goes upwards, so we should heat the car´s compartiment from the bottom up (directing the warm air to the feet vents), and cold (or absence of heat) moves downwards, so it should be done from the top down.

Then as others have comfirmed, its ambient air from within the cabin and is not heated/cooled.
