Windscreen!

Coming home on the M58 last night from Cumbria, something heavy hit the windscreen. The interior rearview mirror flew backwards but whilst the screen cracked it fortunately, didn't shatter.
My insurer's recommended repairer is Autoglass but I don't have to go there. Has anyone experience of Autoglass or a recommendation for a good glass specialist as I don't want to have any leaks with the new screen.

Cannot help apart from saying that fitting bonded screens in cold weather can lead to both water and noisy air leaks due to the adhesive not working correctly ( had this on my wife's car a few years back ) so ensure " they " do it indoors and in a heated workshop.

edit : the screen was fine for a few weeks and then the leak became apparent ( noise ) though my wife never said about it until the warranty ran out !!! Doh !

I would use your insurers recommended repairer, then if there are any faults you have a good come back.

my thoughts too.
Autoglass have an 84% recommendation (National Windscreens by comparison 56%) so seemed ok. However I've just contacted them and they no longer have depots, they're all mobile fitters now. They have canopies in case of rain but that doesn't help the temperature - the fitter will come back apparently if there is an issue with the adhesive curing. Not much comfort if the old screen has been removed...
I may contact my local dealer tomorrow to get chapter and verse on how they replace windscreens (pointless if they just get a specialist who replaces it under a canopy round the back of the dealership) and see what sort of guarantee they offer.

I have used Autoglass - the bloke was sound and did a good job of replacing the screed in my Picasso.

Just a thought Make sure you check with your insurer as usually if you don't use their recommended windscreen repairer you pay a higher excess.

If they come around, can't you rent a heated garage somewhere where they can do the procedure?

Ed from the Wheeler Dealers show on Discovery have mentioned several times that there are places where you can rent a garage/workshop for a day or 3 for tinkering.
