cheap diagnostic scanner
#1
Hello wonder if anyone can help me I'm looking for a cheap diagnostic scanner to clear a engine fault  with my Multispace VTR HDI 1560cc Diesel (2010), the light has came on a 1 week ago but then disappeared and has now its returned.   I had the issue 2 years ago and a local garage cleared the code, I've no issues with the car but would like to see if there is any underlying problems that need to be resolved.

Thanks

I use an app called Torque that talks to the ECU via a Bluetooth dongle. Have a search on the forum as this subject has appeared several times and others have posted different inexpensive solutions.

A cheap EOBD reader will usually only read / clear engine faults.
You usually don't get live data, or read the other systems such as ABS, Airbags etc:
Just bear that in mind when making your choice.

Hi

Your issue could be significant in terms of the error specifically the issue that is causing the error

A potential approach is first to identify the error, this can be done by using Torque app and a cheap dongle (circa £5.00 or less)

Once you know the root cause and assuming it is not a genuine fault that needs attending to, then probably the best option to see if any forum member near you has a Lexia system (circa £100) who can clear it for you.

The above is stated with the understanding that not all error codes can be cleared using the generic ODBII scanner and rather than investing on a more expensive scanner you should consider purchasing a Lexia interface (dedicated PSA)
