Well, changed the fluid using a new pressure kit. All worked fine, new fluid, better brake pedal pressure but, the brakes are STILL binding intermittently. All guide pins move really easily and smoothly. Can I possibly have had TWO dodgy 'new' calipers? Unlikely surely? Any more thoughts anyone? Starting to tear what's left of my hair out! In my ignorance I'm thinking that the only thing left is the master cylinder? Servo seems fine - did the test with foot on brake as I turn the ignition on and get the small amount of 'give' on the pedal. Any other help would be MUCH appreciated.

There's a part of the master cylinder which pushes the piston back slightly to relieve the pressure when you lift off the brake. I have seen these corroded so that the pressure stays on slightly, even though your foot is off the pedal.

Thanks both of you. Think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do the master cylinder. Will post back when I can get it done.

Well, bit the bullet and changed the master cylinder - and flushed and pressure bled the fluid a couple of times. Has seemingly done the trick!!!! Brakes haven't been binding since. Long may it last. Only slight concern is that the brake pedal is now a lot softer than before. Is this perhaps because I'd become used to the pedal operating with binding brakes? Who knows. It stops when I want it to stop and not when I don't want it to.
Many thanks to all contributors who have assisted.
On to the back brakes next!

Finally solved!
Replacing the master cylinder did the trick. Well, at least I know I have a completely new fron brake system now, excluding the ABS.
Thanks very much for all the replies and suggestions. Much appreciated.
Now have a problem with the injectors!
