So I bought my MK1 van a little while ago - it'd been used as an electrician's van I think and was basically an empty shell in the back. I needed a van for work but also wanted to sort something out for surf trips and adventures. After a lot of research I decided to insulate and carpet it myself - stuff I found online really helped so I figured this might be useful to somebody? It's the first time I've done this so no doubt it could be improved!
I had some waxoyl knocking about so I used that to paint over any rust scratches/specks - erm, I only had a big brush at the time hence the less than tidy appearance!
After a fair bit I research I ended up using some double foil bubble insulation - it wouldn't absorb moisture and was easy to work with. I managed to get hold of some on gumtree (the whole thing needed to be on a budget!). I attached it using some high temperature adhesive and sealed any edges with aluminium tape. I also used gaffer tape for holes that I didn't need. I read somewhere that flashband helped deaden panels in the back of a van so used a bit (the dark grey squares) - it definitely makes a difference but using more would probably be more effective (and heavier). The foil also instantly made it cooler inside the van while I was working in it. I attached the insulation to the roof and the inside of the van's sides to start with - I can't attach any more images in this post so will continue in another post shortly...
