Broken Spring
#1
I had to have a new front suspension spring replaced yesterday at 71K miles. Front offside. I noticed it straight away and obviously had to have it attended to immediately. The garage had ordered in the spring just incase (after my description of the noise and where it was coming from) it was that. They turned the job around in a couple of hours. Brilliant service. Smile

Anyone else had a spring break.

My wife had one on her Pug at arround the same mileage. Apparently it's getting more and more common.

Hi Rocket, its common mate - i suggest you book it in when you can to have the other side done because if one spring is fatigued then so will the other one.

It's exactly the same as a ford if it's a front spring and if it's a rear Ford are easier  Big Grin I did a front spring on ours a couple of years ago, the other one is still alright and it will get done when it breaks.
So where does this bit go then ?

I change more Ford springs than any other. Focus, Fiesta & Mondeos have a nasty habit of the broken Spring dropping over the spring cup and the sharp bit of the broken spring can damage the tyre or CV joint boot

Had that on wife's Pug a few year back. Broke on a brand new tyre with a few hundred miles on the clock..not cheap tyres either. Even more unhappy as the recovery company had to use wheel dollies to remove the car from the car park. (height restriction) Because it wasn't covered in the policy, £75 charge to use 2 dollies for 5 minutes. Robbing bar stewards

We probably replace 3 or 4 a week, especially with the cold weather, which seems to cause more breakages than ever.

Citroen recalled the original Berlingo and fitted a cup to the strut to stop the spring from slashing the tyre after a bad accident in France. Mine still has them fitted but a lot I looked at didn't. I have seen the tyre slashed completely in two round the sidewall on a Mondeo with a broken spring. I think you see a lot of broken Ford springs because there are a lot of Ford cars on the road. My daughter had a Corsa and that broke front and rear springs.
So where does this bit go then ?

I don't remember changing springs years ago like we do nowdays. I wonder if it's got anything to do with all the speed bumps there are all over the place, or all the huge potholes every 100 yds.
