Sounds like you instrument panel is faulty, the only cure that I know of is to replace the whole thing. Get down to your local breakers yard, make sure the instrument panel has the same make as your orignal ones and that the rev counter is the same with the rev max limit and red line limit matching as well, you should be able to get a second hand sent of clocks for around £50, the only problem is that the mileage will most likely be different to the clocks you are taking out.

I thought that instrument panels had to be coded to the BSI

Not that I know of. I have a 04 Berlingo Van with a fuel gauge fault and was told that the gauge in the instrument panel was faulty, I managed to get a breakers yard that let me try two sets of instrument panels, everything worked as it should apart from the fuel gauge on both clocks but the mileage did read different. When I checked with a Citroen dealer they told that the instrument panel was not faulty in my van and that normally you will have a double failure like fuel gauge and rev counter, etc etc.

Sounds like the instrument cluster is US but best option is to test gauges with Lexia if you are near Doncaster you are welcome to call & I can test it for you .

If you live too far away follow this link :
