Petrol smell from offside
#1
Had my 06 berlingo Multispace Desire 1.6 Petrol for just about a month now and I really like it. Only has 48,500 on the clock and all stamped up. Had a cambelt kit and water pump fitted in week one so should be good for a while.

My issue started only two nights ago. When I reverse into my garage and lock up I get a wiff of petrol from mid-ships on the offside. Im thinking that maybe the seal on the filler is poor and pressurised air is escaping? or do I need to look under the car for fuel filter issues?

I would be grateful for any thoughts, its not leaking fuel as far as I can see and the smell is not lingering long.

Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure the fuel filter is under the offside there have a look if anything is damp and connections are on tight. Check fuel lines for signs of leaks. While you are looking at the fuel filter see if it looks new as garages often don't replace these.
Are we there yet????? Huh

Thanks at lot for that swift reply.I will get under it at the weekend. One thing I noticed on start up is, when waiting for dashlights to do there thing I can hear the fuel pump whirring for about 10 secs. That's what made me think about a poor seal on the filler cap?

If the pump is running that long I'd say the fuel filter needs replacing, nothing to do with filler cap seal.

Quick update on my fuel wiff.  Took the car for a spin thismorning and then got under to check out ,filter and fuel line. All okay.  Scratched my head and then light bulb moment..........

I think I qualify for pratt of the month as I descvered that the fuel cap was not correctly seated!!

All good.
