Finally bought one!
#1
After looking at a few used Berlingos we finally bit the bullet yesterday and bought one! Cost us a bit more than we'd planned as it was a Citroen dealer, but in MUCH better nick than anything else we'd seen. Won't be able to pick it up until next week, but we're really looking forward to it. Quite a difference in dealer attitudes. First one we visited seemed indifferent and not really fussed whether a few niggles were fixed - said 'It will sell as soon as we get some pics online'. Second dealer much nicer - friendly without being pushy - much more pleasant to deal with.
It's a 1.6HDi with 45K on the clock, so hopefully the dreaded cambelt worries should be a way off.
So thanks for the helpful info from my previous post. Will let you know how we get on with it!

Congratulations!

Hopefully from a Citroen dealer you are getting something that will have been properly prepared and comes with a decent warranty. Don't forget to post pictures when you get it home!

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Thanks Chris - yes, the car was very well prepared, and comes with the Citroen Select 12 month warranty, though I'm not sure at present exactly what is covered by that. The car is late 2006, and was just on the top side of £5k. More than we really wanted to pay, but we just couldn't find what we wanted reasonably locally for less. Of course you ALWAYS pay more through a dealer, but if you can't find what you want anywhere else....

So, we're quite excited at the thought of Berlingoing. We're hoping to be able to get our bikes inside by taking the front wheels off (off the bikes that is!). If it's too much hassle we may have to shell out on a carrier. The car has a tow-bar, though I don't know whether there's a rack available to sit on a tow-ball fitting. Something else to look into. Also there's no collapsable trolley in the car we've bought, so may be on the lookout for one of those.
Will post some pics once we've got the car, but that's not til next week.

The price sounds about right to me. The bonus is that it should have had any faults rectified and in my opinion the only warranties worth having are manufacturer backed ones.

There is a thread about bike carriers if you have a search around. There is a specific mk2 one sold by Citroen which is fixed by clips and straps but at £180 it's not cheap. Might be worth having a chat with the sales manager to see what he can do? Alternatively, if you have got a tow bar there are plenty of other options. You might find though that depending on the size and number of bikes (and rear seat passengers) that they go in the car anyway. I find that I can get my mountain bike plus two kids bikes in (with wheels attached) just by folding the single part of the rear seat.

The trolly (which is the same as a Picasso one) can be found on eBay for £10-£15 but to be honest I wouldn't bother. I bought one for mine as it was initially missing, but I have never used it and takes up a fair amount of space.

Pretty similar to our experience at the beginning of this year.

We wanted a Berlingo - Mk1 or Mk2, so it had to be 2nd hand. Looked around at the options, and decided that going through the dealer network was really the best way to go for us. We paid £5900 for an early 2007 approved used vehicle - perhaps a bit over the odds, but it was very nice car, in good condition, well prepared, and with a good warranty.

10,000 miles later, it has given us no difficulty, and we are still very happy with it.

cycle carrier, I got a thule 9503 from ebay for £68, they cost around £150 new, just drops on the tow ball and a single nut to tighten up, takes three bikes and they are very secure.

Nice one mate, its a shame cause i'm selling mine in the next couple of weeks, its an 07 1.6 diesel desire with air con, double electric tow bar and genuine 35,000 miles with full main dealer history. I only want £5,500 for a quick sale, so if you know any one give them a nudge:thumbsup: The colours Sable.

Thanks for the helpful replies folks - useful info on the bike carrying options. Good luck with your sale berlingojohn. I started looking for one on this forum and checked back regularly, so could be a good place to advertise yours.
