my citroen berlingo 1.9 deisel van goes into 5th gear but the stick drops bak to the nutural position any ideas ??

Does it stay in 5th when then stick goes back? A detent is a spring loaded ball in the selector shafts & hold the selected gear in place as well as preventing 2 gears to be selected at once.HTH

yes it stays in 5th gear no problem and comes bak out easy to

You weren't clear that it was staying in gear. It sounded like it was dropping out hence Detent. As it's staying in gear more likely something in the linkage

ok thank you ill get it checked is that an easy fix ?

Once you find the loose parts, it's not too bad.
Get someone to run through the gears while you observe what's happening with the linkage.
