Gearbox oil leak? or nothing to worry about?
#1
Hi all after i took the underneath cover off to service the oil (with great difficulty with bolts snapping and cable tieing it back afterwards) i noticed a worrying wetness/damp patch of oil on what seems like the gearbox? I'm not that clued up on vehicles this could be normal but there was no sign of oil on the under tray that i took off to get at the sum plug.

there was 1 very small hanging drip off the gearbox or driveshaft thing? I'm not sure but half of it seemed wet to.
no oil leaks where i park it on the drive so do i need to worry or not. its a 2012 berlingo van enterprise 1.6 hdi

pictures attached.

Also the sump oil bolt i brought to replace the old one had a smaller washer so i reused the old one as i wasn't sure it would be right for it after degreasing and throughly cleaning it.

could i have used the new smaller washer type i got?

Thanks in advance guys.

Hi twbob the first place to look is on the top of the engine where the rocker breather come's out of the cam cover and goes into the turbo intake pipe check for oil around there for oil there is a small O ring when they change the air filter they pull the intake pipe off when they put it back the O ring some time's will not site right and will not seal slowly the oil drop's down on to the top of the gear box's after time it run's down to the under side of the gear box so put a new O ring on make sure it's seated job sorted .  smell the oil on the gear box gear oil has funny strong smell different from engine oil sort of sickly smell and will be clean looking.
