Down for 1000 or up for 500..

Hiya all, I have replaced the cold start cable and set the Lucas injection pump to try and improve fuel consumption from 32mpg. The cable was shot.
 Anyway I have set the tick over to 800ish but have noticed if I park the van downhill the tick over increases to 1krpm and if the van is parked uphill the tick over struggles at 500rpm. Otherwise the van runs great. I don't know if fuel consumption has changed yet, too soon to tell.. the van has just turned 150k miles.

  Any ideas about the uphill 1000rpm and the downhill 5oorpm ? 1,9d.

An update..
 I was surprised when the alternator suddenly seized... Now a new alternator has been fitted the revs are steady, I have no idea why the alternator would cause low revs when parked uphill and high revs when parked downhill but there we are..

Maybe electric runs faster down hill,..lol
