Mk3 Internal Internal Lights Mod
#1
Hi Folks,

I'm interested in modifying at least the two rear most internal lights so that I can run them from another battery, also avoiding the problem of the engine battery timeout.

Does anyone have any wiring diagrams, wiring layouts, or even pictures of the wiring layout of the roof lights? I also have the slight complication of having the modulo roof with fan, I'm not sure if they share the same bus and fuse?

My plan is to use a voltage detector relay (part of my tow bar electrics, for switched charging indicator to the 13pin socket) as a means to switch the lights to an alternative battery supply. I will take the output from the voltage detector relay to operate another relay that will hopefully switch the permanent supply to the roof lights away from the vehicle battery to the aux battery.

Any, info would be gratefully appreciated, especially any diagrams and pics.

Will let you know how I get on in due course.

Cheers!
Colin.

Guys, Having bought the recent Haynes manual for the model I've got a better idea of the wiring. But the only problem is that I don't know where the wiring runs to each of the three internal roof lights.

Wiring run pictures of the internal lights? What pilers do the wires go up? Whats the path?

I find the modern workshop manual are nowhere as good as the older manuals where they show you nice and clear the colours and connections very simple to follow so you could resolve problems in minutes

A Haynes workshop manual is not designed to solve problems!
Its purpose is to enrich Mr. Haynes.
Along the way it gives you info that is sometimes useful, and which Mr. Google would have given you for free.
