Clear the fault in the ecu and maybe try a different brand of fuel ( different blend of diesel)

Mines smokey but only at certain ambient 8-12 deg C temperatures but it is tuned ...

Which make of egr valve did you get fitted, the cheap ones simply don't work

I used to have a Skoda with 80k+ urban miles - same issue - clouds of black smoke when giving it the beans - took it to a turbo specialist & he told me was carbon gumming up the mechanism on the variable vanes in the turbo - when you give it the beans the mech is supposed to open the vanes to give more air - if it's stuck you get the same air and more juice - hence black cloud out the back. Is apparently a very common problem with VAG engines used for short stop start urban driving - the turbo never gets hot enough to burn away the carbon.
Cure is strip & clean - dealer will tell you to change the turbo, so don't go there. Don't forget to check and clean the oil pipe to the bearing - carbon blocks this too - no oil = hot bearing = dead turbo
Having said that not even sure the PSA turbo is variable vane so could be nothing to do with this !

A side note.... While installing some new head lamps yesterday I noticed my intake air pipes were all over the place... Rectified that and have noticed less smoke... But who knows... They say here soot gets the girls.....
